A New Easy Way To Support Women Owned Businesses

Choosing items made by women when you shop is now going to be easier.

This is the third post in my series about helping the U.S. economy. The first two in the Series were about How to Buy Products Made in America and Why buy American Made Products. Make sure you read them and help build our United Sates Economy back up.

Women Owned Businesses

A big thanks to Walmart and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) for creating a logo that will be added to merchandise that is made by Women Owned business.

I would probably be considered biased on this subject because I owned my own construction company for years before the Economy plummeted. I remember like it was yesterday being one of very few females in a strictly male business. It was hard to get my foot in the door and we were also held at higher standards because a ‘chick’ was running the company. It can sometimes be a very unfair world.

Walmart and Sam’s Club will be sporting the new logo right away, with other retailers signing on as your reading this post.

According to WBENC your purchase of Women Owned products helps the Companies grow which then creates more employment opportunities for us. You are not just supporting the individual business, you are supporting our economy. Women Owned businesses contribute more than $1.3 trillion dollars to the U.S. economy and employ nearly 7.9 million people. Those are big numbers considering it’s hard for women to get the same treatment as a man in the business world.

Women are responsible for more than 80% of consumer decisions globally. Walmart’s states that in a recent study, 90% of their U.S. women customers would go out of their way to buy merchandise made by women. So we are not alone in this ladies (and gents too). We need to make sure we watch for the new logo and make purchases accordingly.

I know you are wondering about qualifications, it’s under control.

In an article from WBENC they stated that, “to qualify to use the logo, a business must be WBENC and/or WEConnect International certified, which means 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or group of women.” This is awesome news, I researched these Companies and they don’t just give anyone credentials. It is a huge process and not easy. So next time you see the logo be self-assured that you are definitely supporting Women Owned Businesses.

Are you as excited as me about this??

I have found a list of a few brands and companies you can look for the next time you shop that are already using the logo (I’m now excited to go buy a new bra from one of them). I know this list is not very long, but maybe soon I will be able to do an update when I find new companies showing off the logo.

Here is the list I promised you of Women Owned Businesses already sporting the new logo:

To wrap this up I will leave you with this, next time you’re at the store make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the new logo and any of these companies I have listed. It’s as easy as putting it in your cart and making the purchase. You will feel warm and fuzzy all over knowing that you’ve done something good for our economy and your fellow female American woman. It helps that you also know you are buying a product that is high quality and unique.

If you enjoyed this post make sure you check out my other post in this Series How to Buy Products Made in America and Why buy American Made Products.

What do you think? Will you look for and buy products with the new logo and feel all warm and gushy inside?

Why buy American Made Products?

I’m glad you want to know why you should buy American Made Products!

Keep reading and I will share with you what I have learned…

It’s pretty sad that we are at a point that we have to make a choice of paying a little more for something and knowing it will be safe and is made with strict guidelines or purchasing something that can potentially harm us but pay less. That to me is a no brainer. Which is why I put together this Article about How to Buy Products Made in America. It’s an in depth list of Products and Brands Made in the USA. I also wrote an article on how It’s Easy To Support Women Owned Businesses.

I recently read an article from the Website Made in America Forever; they sell only quality products made in the USA. The article I read stated that, “the truth is, there are MANY reasons to consider buying American-made clothing, American-made toys, and other US-manufactured goods.” They listed just a few of the benefits of buying American Made Products below:

Made in USA Forever

Top Ten Reasons to Buy USA Made Products according to Made in America Forever:

10) Foreign labor standards allow unsafe worker conditions in many countries. When you buy American you support not only American manufacturers but also American workers, safe working conditions, and child labor laws. (I would hate to give to these unorthodox ways).

9) Jobs shipped abroad almost never return. When you buy goods made in the USA, you help keep the American economy growing. (Our economy needs our help in every way we can give it).

8) US manufacturing processes are much cleaner for the environment than many other countries; many brands sold here are produced in countries using dangerous, heavily polluting processes. When you purchase American-made product, you know that you’re helping to keep the world a little cleaner for your children. (The United States has stronger rules and regulations than other countries).

7) Many countries have no minimum wage restrictions, or the minimum wage is outrageously low. When you choose products made in the USA, you contribute to the payment of an honest day’s wages for an honest day’s work. (I don’t want children being made to produce what I am purchasing for next to nothing).

6) The growing lack of USA ability to manufacture many products is strategically unsound. When you seek out American-made goods, you foster American independence.

5) The huge US trade deficit leads to massive, unsustainable borrowing from other countries. Debt isn’t good for you and it isn’t good for America. (We really need to do something about the amount of debt our country is in).

4) Foreign product safety standards are low. For example, poisonous levels of lead are in tens of millions of toys shipped to the USA. When you buy toys and other goods made in the USA, you can be confident that American consumer protection laws and safety standards are in place to protect your family. (I buy for my friends and family, I don’t want to poison them with no regulations regarding product safety)

3) Lack of minimum wage, worker safety, or environmental pollution controls in many countries undermines the concept of “fair and free trade”. No Western nation can ultimately compete on price with a country willing to massively exploit and pollute its own people. When you buy only American-made products, you insist on a higher standard.

2) Factories and money are shifting to countries not friendly to the USA or democracy. When you avoid imported goods in favor of American-made items, you help ensure that the United States doesn’t find its access to vital goods impacted by political conflict. (Enough said).

1) As the US manufacturing ability fades, future generations of US citizens will be unable to find relevant jobs. Buy American and help keep your friends and neighbors-and even yourself-earning a living wage. (I have 3 kids and a grandchild to think about, I can’t be selfish).

To sum this list up, if you love where you live and you like breathing clean air we need to change our buying habits now. Our country can’t survive if we keep sending everything off to be manufactured.

How do you know if it’s really made in America?

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), “Made in the USA” means that “all or virtually all” of a given product has been made in America, meaning all significant parts, processing and labor that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. For most products, there is no law that requires manufacturers to make a “Made in the USA” claim, with the exception of automobiles and textile or wool products, which are required to be labeled with the country where they were manufactured.

Consumer Reports

Like I stated in How to Buy Products Made in America, Consumers Reports states that, “Another type of labeling law, enforced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection with an assist from the Department of Agriculture, requires imported goods to bear a country-of-origin label when they enter the U.S. If an import combines materials or processing from more than one country, the agency considers the country of origin to be the last country in which a “substantial transformation” occurred—for example, the place where a computer was fabricated, not the country that supplied most parts.

The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is responsible for administering and enforcing country-of-origin labeling of certain foods. Large retailers must use signs, labels, or stickers to identify the birthplace of covered commodities (most meat, fish, fresh or frozen fruits, vegetables, and some nuts). That’s why some brands of salmon are labeled both “wild-caught Alaskan” and “Product of Thailand.” The fish was caught in U.S. waters but took a detour to Asia to be skinned and boned (to take advantage of cheaper labor) before making its return voyage. Under the law, that side trip must be noted.”

There’s good news!

The good news is that if you see an item that says Made in the USA they actually are regulated and have to be made in America. A few years ago when we went to the store we had no idea where our stuff was coming from. We didn’t have any regulations on labeling or tags telling us where something came from. We were just supposed to guess. I know when I am buying toys for my grandson and my kids I pay special attention to where the items are made. There are too many recalls and warnings on lead content and contamination in the products made overseas. I will not take that chance when it comes to my family.

I know one thing for sure, after researching and reading articles for this post, I am going to be more cautious. I am going to go above and beyond to make sure I am not only supporting the companies here in the United States, but not complain to myself about the bit of extra money I have to spend. My life and my children’s lives really do depend on these awesome Businesses that stay here in the United States. We all know it’s cheaper and easier to send things abroad to be made. That my friend is not the American way.

American Made

What do you think about products being made in America versus made in other countries? Will you make a stand with me and start buying American as much as possible?

If you’re interested in more to this series watch for my next post on how It’s Easy To Support Women Owned Businesses. You can also find a list of Businesses and products Made in the USA that I wrote here in How to Buy Products Made in America. Remember this is our land; it’s up to us to keep it going.

How to Buy Products Made in America

Are you interested in learning more helpful ways to buy Products Made in the USA?

You’ve come to the right place.

I am going to share with you some secrets and tips on how to buy American made Products. I will also share with you a new great way to support Women Owned Businesses in the another Post in this series It’s Easy To Support Women Owned Businesses. Keep reading and learn how to help do your share in supporting the United States Economy.

Most of us don’t know the impact our shopping habits are having on the United States and ourselves. We have a tendency to just go to the store and just throw stuff in a cart to get in and out of a store as fast as possible. We never even stop to look at where it was made or where it came from. It is easier than you think to make the choice to buy American Made Products, you just have to know the brands you are shopping for. That is why I am helping you, I have put together a couple of list of products and Brands to look for the next time you are shopping.

My next post in this Series goes into detail about why you should buy American Made products, I will share with you the consequences of our shopping routines in the United States, but today we will focus on how and where to buy the brands made in the America.

So you want to buy American but don’t know where to start.

According to Consumer Reports, “Few products except cars, textiles, furs, and woolens are required by law to reveal their American heritage. But when any manufacturer chooses to boast of an American connection, it must comply with federal rules designed to keep consumers from being misled.” You can tell if your purchase is not from The United States because, “One type of labeling law, enforced by U.S.

Enough of the technical stuff, let’s have some fun…

Chapter From My Daughter’s New Book

This is going to be the cutest story when it’s done, #1 Best Seller…

Paige Wings

        “Janey’s Escape” By Paige Fritz

My 14-year-old daughter Paige is writing a book. This is a small tidbit of what she’s written. I think this is going to turn out awesome once it’s done.

Janey would tell me she has wings and that one day she would fly far far away. She told me this so many times that I believed she did have wings. I wanted Janey to show me her wings so I begged and cried because she would say,
“Do you want my wings to break?”
“No but, I want to see them.”
“Do you want your own wings?”
“Yes” I hiccuped.
“Close your eyes” she sounded so distant and full of sorrow
“But, I want my wings” I looked at her. Her eyes were closed she looked so peaceful and happy and like she was drifting away from me. So I closed my eyes.
“Think about flying. Imagine you’re above the world staring down at the ocean with the waves slapping the shore with the seagulls flying above the beach screaming at each other.”
So I did.
I was above the beach breathing in the salt water. I felt like I was there with the seagulls watching them scream at each other and fly down to the water and scoop up a catch that was 50% efficient.

That’s an impossible feeling. Feeling so close but, being so far away. I opened my eyes and Janey was watching me with the hint of a smile playing on her lips.
“That’s where you go when you close your eyes. Isn’t it?”
“Yes and now I share that place with you.”
This was the birth of a new sisterly relationship and we both knew it and a shadow of worry ghosted its way onto Janey’s face but, was quickly shoved in a box and replaced with joy that wasn’t all the way there. Janey got up and walked to her room. She came back a bit later in a new outfit and put a blood-red finger to her lips, walked to my double doors blew me a kiss and shimmied down my tree. When she came back it felt like years had passed. She laid down with me she smelt faintly like sour apple cider.

“Where’d you go?”
“To hang out with friends”
“What did you guys do?”
She leaned in close to my ear and whispered
“I’ll show you when you’re older”
“Pinky Promise?  I put up my pinky and she giggled and put hers up too and said in a very serious tone with a very un-serious smile placed on her lips
“Alice I pinky promise” and laid down with me her flaming brown hair fanning around her head. She looked like the most beautiful girl in the world and I knew one day I would be just like her. I had to be. I covered us both up and drifted away to a place that dragons mermaids fairies lived among each other along with talking cats and bunnies and you never grew old and nothing is impossible. Never land and Wonderland combined into one magical place where dreams come true. Where the impossible is possible, Dreamland.

No, this picture below is not of my daughter, Lol…

Requesting Continued Prayers For Gage

Thanks for all the Loving Support and Prayers for Gage…

Update for Saturday February 21, 2015!

Hey Everybody!!! This is a Gage update…

He was admitted to the Hospital on Thursday and kept overnight for his next Chemo Infusion. We were hoping and praying for a quick and easy process, and we got it (Thank you God)! He is struggling a bit with swelling in his legs and cute little face the last couple of days and so we had hoped to find out whether we need to worry about that, but didn’t get an answer. Regardless, Thank you for the prayers that this process would be easier than in the past and that he continues to improve every day.

The IV went in on the first try!!!!! Yay!!

He’s had roughly 9 of them and this is the only one to go right in!! We’re off to a great start! Because his Blood Count is so low, his veins don’t lie to take the needle like normal. This causes a problem when drawing blood and putting the IV’s in.

When his Blood Results came back, his Creatine (kidney function) is getting better!! It was at 2.7 last week and 2.4 today (It should be at .5 so we still have a way to go)!!! His blood count went up a little too! 9.5 Versus 9.3 last week. A smidge closer to the 14 it is supposed to be at!!! This is all good news!

We don’t think the swelling is abnormal for what’s going on.

They are more worried about the occasional high blood pressure that’s happening with it all. So they are adding high blood pressure medicine (as needed) to his array of meds. He will continue to get the shots to increase his blood count every couple of weeks (Krista gets to give him shots at home). He had to get one before he went home from the Hospital on Friday. They seem to be working a little! Since his levels are slowly creeping up.

According to Krista under the circumstances Gage is doing really well! I think he’s bored and sick of hospital food and we are all REALLY tired. Ultimately though he’s good!

Gage, Krista, Travis and Jazmin have felt much love through the support and Prayers from everyone. This has been a scary, hard and painful journey with Gage. His recovery from the Kidney Damage has come slower than we thought and would like, but it IS slowly coming!

God Is Amazing

I said a Prayer For You

Even though the progress has been relatively slow but steady, we know God is there holding their hands.

The Lord holds us in his firm and loving grip. They have an army of friends who are standing with them, an army who is traveling with them on this journey (yup, that’s you).

For that they are truly grateful. Thank you!!

Send Gage your love and support in the Comments below and PLEASE keep Praying…
